Kay L. Van Wey began her legal career  in 1984 in her hometown of Lawton, Oklahoma as a Comanche County Assistant District Attorney. As a young prosecutor, Kay  gained valuable courtroom experience. She  built upon the fundamentals she learned as a prosecutor,  as she tried numerous civil and criminal cases throughout Texas and Oklahoma.

Over the years, Kay began limiting her practice to representing plaintiffs in personal injury litigation. Kay has represented many people who have become the unwitting victims of a catastrophic personal injury or wrongful death. Several of these cases have been featured widely in the media.

Kay is board certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. To become Board Certified in personal injury trial law, an attorney must have been licensed to practice law for at least five years; devoted a minimum of 25% of their time to the practice of personal injury trial law in Texas; handled a wide variety of matters in the area to demonstrate experience and involvement; attended at least 60 hours of continuing education seminars in personal injury trial law during the 3 years preceding certification; have been evaluated by fellow lawyers and judges and passed a day-long written examination.

Kay’s achievements have been recognized and honored by her selection as a Texas Super Lawyer. Kay has been named every year since 2003. Kay has also been accepted into the Million Dollar and Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum due to cases she handles which resulted in million and multi-million dollar settlements on behalf of her clients.

Kay has been licensed to practice law in Oklahoma since 1983 and Texas since 1990. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in 1980 from the University of Oklahoma and her law degree from Oklahoma City University School of Law in 1983.  She is a member of the Dallas Bar Association, Texas Trial Lawyers Association and The American Association for Justice. Kay is a frequent speaker at seminars teaching other attorneys about personal injury law and litigation tactics.  Kay served on and ultimately chaired the District a panel of the District 6A grievance committee for the State Bar of Texas.

Kay routinely represents clients throughout Texas and Oklahoma and also accepts select cases throughout the United States.
