Are You Taking Yaz? Know the Signs of Gallbladder Disease

Yaz is the best-selling oral contraceptive in the United States. What you may not know is, it is also a dangerous drug. If you are taking Yaz for birth control, it is important that you be aware of some potential side-effects of the drug. Yaz has been associated with an increased risk of gallbladder disease, including infection of the gallbladder, inflammation of the gallbladder, and gallstones.

These complications occur when the hormones in Yaz are processed by the liver. The extra estrogen can cause the bile in the gallbladder to thicken and increase cholesterol. When this happens, the body has more difficulty eliminating gallstones and it becomes more difficult for the bile to be delivered to the digestive system.

Texas dangerous drugs attorney Kay Van Wey advises anyone taking Yaz to be aware of the warning signs of gallbladder disease:
  1. Fever
  2. Nausea
  3. Vomiting
  4. A heavy feeling under the ribs or a “stitch” in one’s side
  5. Pain in the upper abdomen or back
  6. Pain under the right shoulder blade
  7. Pain that lasts more than five hours
  8. Irritability
  9. Sensitivity to smell or light
  10. Jaundice or yellowing of the skin or eyes

Women taking Yaz also have an increased lifetime risk of gallbladder removal surgery. Removal of the gallbladder can have life-long effects, including:
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Vitamin and mineral deficiencies
  • Impairment of the digestive system
  • Increased risk of heart disease and diabetes
  • Increased risk of nervous system disorders

If you experience gallbladder complications after taking Yaz in Texas, you may be eligible for compensation for your injury. Contact Dallas Yaz lawsuit attorney Kay Van Wey at 800-489-5082.
