I used the drug Topamax during pregnancy and my baby was born with a cleft lip or cleft palate. Could the drug be responsible for my child's birth defect?

A: In women who took Topamax during the first trimester of their pregnancy, there has been an increased incidence of cleft lip and cleft palate. In order to determine whether your child's cleft lip or cleft palate are related to your use of Topamax during pregnancy, a detailed history and analysis of your medical records would need to be undertaken by an experienced attorney and team of medical experts.
