Distracted to Death - Stop Distracted Driving and SAVE Lives
You're driving to work when you get a call. Thinking nothing of it, you pick up your cell phone and answer. As you chat with your friend, you don't notice that the light in front of you has turned red. You also don't notice that the other cars nearby have stopped at the light. When you finally do see them, it's too late.
Screech! BAM! The sound of your screeching tires abruptly changes to the sound of crushing metal, flooding into your ears. An airbag deploys, hitting you in the face. You are unable to see what has happened and are afraid that you may be seriously hurt.
After being helped out of your car by paramedics, you see two other cars, badly mangled, and two other drivers, also being attending to by paramedics. A police officer comes up to you and tells you that you hit the car in front of you, pushing him into the intersection where he was then hit by another oncoming vehicle. He gives you a citation for reckless driving.
A sinking feeling hits your stomach. You wonder whether this horrible accident could have been prevented if you had simply let your phone ring.
