S2 Ep. 1: Beyond Dr. Death: Why Patient Safety Still Matters
Aired on June 10th, 2026
Podcast Summary (18m:2s).
This season we’re going to take a more personal approach. This year will feature people you probably haven’t heard of, folks whose stories won’t make the national news. This season, we are going to look beyond the individual bad apples to examine a health care system that is fundamentally broken. These are the people behind the cases that my partner Luke Metzker and I work through each and every day.
Luke Metzler is our first guest this season.
This season is about how we’re all in the same boat together and how we can make changes to the system by working together. Our legal practice gives us unique access to all sides of the healthcare system.
Using this podcast, we can get other experts in the healthcare industry to talk to us about what needs to change, new technologies or scientific advances that are available to help prevent errors from happening, and what an AI-driven future in healthcare looks like for patients. We are in the age of AI and living through the greatest change in our country’s existence. We make this podcast because we’re all patients and everyone should seek to understand how our healthcare system puts us all at risk.
In Season 2, AdvoKAYte will look at the system as a whole, starting with governance. Our friend and colleague, Anne Roberts, is a hospital administrator. Anne will walk us through how hospitals are run and which C-suite decisions affect patient care and safety. We will also look into the science of patient safety. Did you know there is an entire field that studies how to implement systems that detect and analyze how medical errors happen? After that, we’ll look at the doctors, nurses, and other medical personnel who staff our healthcare system. What is ailing our healthcare workers, and why are they so burned out? Is the very system itself putting healthcare workers in situations where they become error-prone through exhaustion? More importantly, how do we fix it?
To round out the season, we are going to look at the rapid transformations happening in health care. AI is no longer the future because that future is happening right now. AI is embedded in our medical decision-making, documentation, diagnosis, and robotics. How healthcare is delivered is going to change dramatically in the coming months and years. We’re going to see how the use of AI as a tool in healthcare makes Americans safer or puts them at greater risk. We’ll also talk about how AI can be used to keep track of the healthcare
